Where we work
Two main repositories will house global collections, one in the United States of America, and one in the United Kingdom. Having two comprehensive repositories safeguards the global collection against the calamity of cryogenic failure at one of the facilities. Regional repositories will also be set up in order to facilitate the collection of the global collection. These regional repositories will house a native coral species sample collection and prepare two additional samples of each species for preservation at the two main repositories in the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
Whilst The Global Coral Repository aims to restore coral reefs worldwide, the programme will focus initially on areas known to host the world’s richest coral biodiversity. These areas include but are not restricted to; the Caribbean, Indian Ocean, Indo Pacific and the Pacific Ocean.
In order to achieve its mission, The Global Coral Repository will forge partnerships with institutions and organisations managing coral reef resources globally.
